What a fun trip today was. Some problems started to happen to our only means of transportation. My aunt took the car out last week and something happened that took out the fan. It was jerry rigged together and not a great thing to have happen. Then the power steering decided to start using a huge container of fluid every day. This is a Lincoln Town Car which means it's a big boat and nasty to turn without power steering. I tried to get the parts and hit road blocks. I tried to find a mechanic and hit road blocks. OK fine. Wait & pray.
Then we got the offer that we could get it fixed by a gal we know who's husband likes to tinker. OK fine. Well... He came over and not only freaked me out by his appearance (He strongly resembled to the point of being a carbon copy a very bad, evil man from my past) but couldn't fix the problem. So... she talked to her dad about getting it fixed as he works at the dealership that sells these cars locally. He hammed and hawed as to if it would be possible to do, etc. So we wrote him off. We had the parts for the most part, just not the tools or the knowledge of what we were doing...
My mentor wanted me & dh to come up to his place and do some work. I explained I couldn't with the car acting up. He figured he'd call his mechanic to work on the car if we could get it to the mechanics. Well, that was ok but I don't have the money to do the mechanic fees. So didn't really want to do that. I also couldn't go do what he wanted cause my oldest had an appointment with the neuro-psych doc & p-doc. I was trying to stand my ground, be firm, and not cut my chance of help if all else failed. but I also didn't want to kill the car while trying to get to the mechanics which is about 50 minutes away.
So then were out doing the running that had to be done with a car and of course needed to fill the power steering reservoir up. And we draw attention of a guy who happens to be a mechanic but isn't able to do the work because of an injury. He told us the part we needed to have to do the repair and the tool. LOL the parts where about $50 and the little tool was $6. Totally sounded do able once he explained what needed to be done. So my aunt got the parts and I negotiated the bank account to do it. LOL
We come home pop the hood to get the car to co ol down. After all a hot engine is no fun to mess with. Our neighbor freaks out and bangs on the door. He tells my dh that I'm killing the car. Well I was I popped the hood and took out a couple of bolts that were co ol enough for me to mess with them. Dh gets up and decides that he can help. But he has to get a pop 1st. So he walks to the store to get his pop. My aunt and I start to take things a part. We did pretty good up until one last bolt. That had to have dh help with. Then it was take the fan out & put the spacer & new fan on. that didn't take too long once we got that last bolt out. LOL So then it's on to the power steering. We know we have 1 bad hose. so after banging around a bit dh gets ticked and cut it out & then used his needle nose to pull the piece out. LOL I missed a big chunk of the action on the power steering as the phone kept ringing. between my psycho chick & popcorn that needed to be picked up, Avon orders, and a couple of weirdo people who were looking for a limo service.
It just felt really good to get out there and put the car back together and take care of it because I woke up with the feeling that enough was enough was enough. LOL
